Next Top Spiritual Author

What is it?

An online writing competition, organized primarily by James Twyman and Robert Evans.  The purpose is to search for the next top spiritual author and to publish the next big book in this genre.  Winner receives a publishing contract with Hampton Roads Publishing, plus a $50,000 marketing deal.  Sweet.

When does it start, and how long is it?

The official launch of the competition is on March 29, 2010.

It is run as a contest in stages 1-4, with different requirements in each stage.  The first stage is the ‘pitch’.  Contestants prepare an audio or video pitch for their book idea, then solicit people to vote for them. 

Stage 2 (starting May 24) is comprised of only the top 250 vote-getters from the first round.  These competitors are asked to put together a more formal book proposal, plus submit a sample chapter from their book.  Voters can get a better idea of what the book will be about, what they can learn from it, and what makes it different from similar books in the same genre.

Stages 3-4 will be described later, as I progress in the competition.

Why am I entering this competition?

I have been working on a fictional story for the past couple of years, answering the question: what is the secret to finding happiness, health, and inner peace?

I call it, “Two Princes, One Crown”. It is a tale of two brothers, identical twins, born as princes in the age of kings, castles and sorcerers.  Even though they share the exact same genetics and the same nurturing environment, the twins display two completely different perspectives – one embraces the principles of love, hope and gratitude, while the other makes most of his decisions based on fear, doubt and self-preservation.  As a result, we are reminded throughout the book that our interpretation of life’s situations is more important than what actually happens.   Knowing that only one of the twins can eventually be king, their destiny becomes more a matter of choice than chance.  Which twin will inherit the Crown?  Read the book and find out.  The ending of the story might surprise you…

Each one of us can relate to the story, as it is a story of Ego vs. God, or wanting to be right versus doing the right thing.  Philosophical ideas about life, love, and human achievement are discussed alongside the quest for one prince to become king – begging the question, “Is success our ultimate goal?”  Along the way, we also learn about the development of energy systems in the human body and their effects on health and healing, as the twins are put through the Seven Rites of Passage in their transition into manhood. 

In this fictional story, each reader will find a bit of themselves in each of the characters, and therefore will be compelled to keep reading to see what happens next… see if YOU can put this book down…

Why Should I Vote for Dr. Christian Guenette?
